World Food Day (16th Oct) - Evidence for Portfolio!

Did any of your Year 7 or Year 10 tutees do something for World Food Day that took place on 16th October?

Did they design a paper plate for the display board?

Did they contribute food to the Food bank collection?

They can add this to their portfolios!

HOW??

  • They could write about it and ask you to sign it off.
  • They could take a photo of what they did and put it in their folder.
  • They could ask a parent to write a note stating what they contributed to the food bank collection.

What is the Global Portfolio?

Global Portfolio – a summary

Concept

·         Being launched with Year 7 and Year 10 next year

·         Similar in appearance to a “Record of achievement”

·         The global portfolio will be split into six sections “Global Dimensions”. Each section will have a coversheet and empty wallets for the students to collect evidence

·         The  6 “Global Dimensions” are:

o   Global Citizenship and interdependence (To be covered through tutor periods)

o   Conflict Resolution

o   Diversity

o   Human rights and social justice

o   Sustainable Development

o   Values and perceptions

·         For each dimension the student needs to collect:

o   5 pieces of evidence relating to “Me” (For bronze award)

o   Plus 5 pieces of evidence relating to “School & local Community” (For silver award)

o   Plus 1 major and on-going initiative with a more global perspective (For gold)

·         A student will only receive a bronze / silver / gold award when a they have evidence that they have  met the requirements in all 6 of the perspectives

Monitoring / logistics

·         Towards the end of term 2, 4 & 6 the school will conduct “Mini milestone” sessions

·         One lesson will be utilised for the students to review their progress via peer and self-assessment and to set targets for the future. The teacher will circulate and select the best 2-4 portfolios from that particular teaching group

·         The best portfolios from each group will be sent to departments on a rotation basis – the departments will select the very best of these and the students will be rewarded with a breakfast session in the Atrium early in the following term (Parents to be invited)

Departmental responsibilities

·         Departments need to identify terms when they will be hitting the global perspectives for both Year 7 and 10

·         On a rolling basis departments will be responsible for:

o   Organising the mini-milestone days

o   Receiving the best portfolios from each teaching group and deciding on the “Best of the best”

o   Organising the rewards breakfasts
